We were both excited to visit Paris. Deb, in particular, had dreamed of going there for several years, and she could hardly believe that dream was coming true. On the train once more, we passed the time by cramming for our upcoming French exam. We figured fewer people would speak English in France, and we wanted to at least attempt to speak simple French as a courtesy. As we neared Paris Nord station, Deb was amazed to see that only five minutes outside one of the biggest, most cosmopolitan cities in the world, the landscape looked like I-76 heading to Fort Morgan, only with a few more trees. This, in her opinion, was not a good sign. :-) Upon arrival, we made our way through the busy Paris Nord station in search of tickets for the Metro, the famous Parisian subway. An agent who spoke a "leetle" English sold us two tickets and pointed us to Line 4, for the Trocadero stop. Seemed easy enough, but when we found Line 4, there were two of them, and neither one seemed to go to Trocadero! Had we been on a subway lately, I'm sure we would have known, but finally we realized that Line 4 would take us to a different station, and from there we'd transfer to the Trocadero stop. Our confidence restored, we managed to make it to our destination. |
