Venice, here we come! (Dsc01716.jpg)
9/17/02

We woke early in Assisi to begin our journey to the much anticipated Venice! The local bus took us to the Assisi train station, from which we took the train to Firenze (Florence). A train to Bologna was leaving shortly, so we grabbed a slice of yummy thin-crust pizza and hopped on the train. We were settled onboard when Sean remembered that we hadn't time-stamped our tickets-- big no-no! With the train threatening to leave any minute, we grabbed our stuff. Sean stood with the bags while Deb raced down the platform to the nearest yellow time-stamp box, stamped the tickets, then raced back. We jumped back on the train just in time--phew!

In Bologna, we paid an upgrade to take the fancy Eurostar train. Not really worth the 20 Euros, in our opinion. Cleaner, yes, but the reserved seats were an extra hassle and cramped. Turns out the 'slower' train arrived only 20 minutes later than we did in Venice, and we wouldn't have had to pay an upgrade charge. Oh well, just another day on the Italian rail system! :-)
